Bling with an Attitude Blog Hop

My art piece was created with the retiring Skylark paper pack and is heavy on the Cricut use.  Take a peek:

Here is a close up of the birdcage, it is the lightest sheet in the Brown and Tan Glitter paper pack. I went over the whole thing with Liquid Glass to give it some more dimension and shine, as well as the "dream" at the bottom of the canvas.  I added the Rhinestone Charms for even more blingy-bling!

 





 

 

 

We have three...3...cartridges from CTMH with birds on each one.  You'd think there would be a birdcage in there somewhere, right? 

 

 

Well...I did.     And guess what...no birdcages!  So, I made my own.  Here is a screen shot from Cricut Craft Room of all the pieces I used in my canvas and which cartridges each of the shapes come from.

  

The birdcage is created with the top three shapes from the AP cartridge as well as the Umbrella shape from the AB cartridge.

Base & Bling for my Crew

Well apparently I wasn't the only one in the world that was having issues with Adobe yesterday.  I'm just so very glad it wasn't something I had done to my own computer...which is what Engineer would immediately think, right honey?

 

Now that things have been smoothed over I can show you a couple more Base & Bling pendants I've made.

 

Last month I had several great ladies join my Craft Closet Crew.  Besides our team tote, I'm sending them each one of these cute necklaces for them to show off while they start their new hobby/business.

Happy Mother's Day

Ah, the mother of all holidays!  I get to sleep in, have breakfast served in bed, read a book without interruptions...wait, no that never happens.  Maybe someday...

This holiday is kind of bittersweet.  I lost my own mother 4 years ago but have since then gained a wonderful stepmother.

This year my birthday falls on Mother's Day, too.  So you know...double presents!


I made a special card to send to my special stepmom.

Stamps: Universal Backgrounds (retired), Simple Beauty (retired)

Inks: Whisper, Slate, Black

Papers: White Daisy, Black cardstock

Accessories: Sparkles Clear Flourishes-Small, Black satin ribbon

Tools: Artiste Cricut cartridge

I used the Artiste cartridge and CCR to make the piano base.  On page 47 of the booklet, there is a cut for a card holder.  It is Accent 3.  I welded a rectangle to the right side of the shape and sized it to be 5.5"x8.5".   And yes, all the keys are individual pieces.  It looked so much better than just drawing the lines.

I suppose it has more than one special meaning.  My mom always wanted us kids to play, so we had lessons growing up.  I don't play as much as I used to, but I can still sit down and make something come out of the piano.


My stepmom also plays the piano and organ.  So I knew this card would be just perfect for her.  I'm so grateful for her bringing music back into my dad's house!

I also sent her a Base and Bling necklace.

I used a glitter nail polish on the Glass Cover first to give it sparkle.  Then used one of the images from the Dreamer sheets for the image.

Base & Bling Style

Wow, can I just tell you how glad I am this week is over?  Engineer's flight home was delayed so much it was 11:30 last night when we picked him up!  Poor boys had to get up and go to school today, too.

But don't feel too sorry for them...they are leaving this afternoon for our ward's annual Fathers and Sons campout. 


And they couldn't be more excited.  Well, not as excited as me.  

One whole night all to myself...


Now if only we had a pool.


Today I'm going to share a video from CTMH...all about our Base & Bling line.  I've been playing so much with it lately I wanted you to see just how easy it really is to make your own Bling!

I do admit I make my pendants backwards from Kristine.  I use the Liquid Glass to attach the Glass Cover to whatever I'm using in the pendant, let it dry then trim around the glass.  Then I use just a small drop, not nearly as much as she does, to attach the pieces together.

Find a way that works for you and stick with it.

Yes, yes...I know.  For non Star Wars fans this joke must get pretty old.


But for the rest of us it's a great day to get together and celebrate one of the greatest Sci-Fi franchises in the galaxy!


Granted, we are fans of all kinds of nerdiness in this house...Star Wars is just the tip of the iceberg!

So what kind of crafty project could I possible share today.  While it doesn't cover just the Jedi/Sith saga, I did create a friendly reminder that now hangs on our fridge.

I used another Base and Bling pendant, but turned  it upside down and attached a charm!  If you look closely, you'll see a Clear Sparkle in the lens of the camera charm.  It's the perfect size!

Now whenever the boys stop at the fridge,
   which they seem to do more and more these days, they'll always be reminded that all things nerdy are loved and welcomed in this house.

Bling Up Your Base and Bling

Have you tried the new pendants and charms from Close to my Heart's Base and Bling line?  It's a very fun and economical way to expand your jewelry selection!  And while you can choose various charms and images to place under the glass covers...I did something a little different.  Take a look!

Pretty blingy, right?
This was so easy...it just takes some time.  So let me walk you through it.

1. Secure your Glass Cover upside down.  I used a mini glue dot to keep it from rocking around.
2. Paint a thin coat of clear nail polish.  Wait to dry.
3. Paint a thin coat of your choice of nail polish.  Wait to dry.
4. Repeat step 3 until you get the coverage you want.  Wait to dry in between each layer.
5. Paint a thin coat of clear nail polish to seal it.  Wait to dry.
6. Put a small...and I mean small, like the size of a teeny, tiny pea...drop of Liquid Glass in the pendant.
7. Place your painted Glass Cover in the pendant and...say it with me now...wait to dry.
8. If you used too much Liquid Glass and it's seeping out the sides, you can quickly wipe it up before it sets.

That's it!  So you see, it's not hard...well, except if you count the waiting.  But it's just about perfect if you do a big assembly line of these.  Start at one end and by the time you get done, the first one should be ready to go for the next coat!

If you do make any, I'd love to see your results!  I have way too many bottles of nail polish so I'm thinking some teacher gifts are in store for me this weekend.
